365 Days Of Photography: Day 4

Mask

Shadow 1

Doing 365 days of photography can take time and a lot of walking. Today I decided to stay home and not face the colder weather that has blown in today. I wanted to make images from something the house. Not a household object, at least not directly.

During lock down I started to look around for subject matter and found it in shadows. This seemed apt as we were living a shadow life alone in our homes. We were living in the shadow of covid and still are. I became interested in the shadows cast by kitchen utensils on the walls. They suggested landscapes, buildings and sometimes faces or in the case of the image above a mask. This is not shadow photography in the traditional sense of using shadows to enhance an image. I wanted to concentrate on the shadows divorced from the object that is casting them.

Night City

Shadow 2

These abstract shapes suggest architecture. A city at night maybe or something else. If you see something please leave a comment.

Light and Hills

Shadows 3

This image suggests a landscape of rolling hills with some kind of structure in the foreground. An alien place that doesn’t exist in except in the mind of anyone looking. In a way making images like this was a way of escaping the confines of lock down.
