Abstract BlueGold
So here we are in Week 8 sickly cakes and abstract images this time. Found this subject matter on the streets of the City Of Bath. I was there because some work came my way so the images this week are grabbed on the fly as I commuted from Bristol to Bath. Times like this my little Pentax Q camera comes into its own. It sits in a coat pocket or in my leather case and is whipped out at a moments notice to capture whatever my eye locks onto.
A camera as small as the Q is actually in someways better suited to street photography than its big brother the Pentax K1. Toting around with a full frame DSLR does give better images but it also can draw attention. With a smaller camera I don’t feel so visible on the street and therefore not so likely to frighten the wildlife.
Man On Mobile
I saw this man engrossed in the screen of his mobile phone. I took his picture looking through the glass panels of an empty shop. Once again the urge to remain behind screens pushed me in that direction. I feel this approach to street photography is a result of the pandemic, lock downs and face masks. We’ve spent two years screening ourselves from each other.

Camellia Decay
After the storms of the previous weekend a lot of debris is in the garden. On the steps near the back of the house this camellia flower slowly decaying caught my attention.

Floral Phone Box
Back in Bath today. The red phone box has just about disappeared from our streets however in Bath they are now repurposed for floral displays.
Sickly Cakes
These lavish cakes were in the window a of a Bath shop. They are there every day and they never change. I’m thinking they are not real but they do draw the eye.

Polyanthus
The bright yellow of this polyanthus flower cheered up the cold streets of Bath this morning. I went in close to get the image. Once again in a red phone box.

Shadows Week 8
The light from the sun was bouncing around in our hallway and making these shadows on a door. I started shooting shadows during lock down and have carried on ever since. I might one day use this to make a composite image but on the other hand it has a dramatic quality of its own.

Chimes Still Life
Just liked the way these chimes were arranged on the table.

Mustard Green Leaf With ICM
Last image of week 8. The sun is out and shining through this leaf of a red giant mustard green leaf. Applied Intentional Camera Moves to it, and then played around with it in Lightroom and Affinity Photo to get this abstract image.
Right that’s week eight’s images. Tomorrow I start looking for subjects for week nine. Hope you enjoy them.
