Glasses
Taking photos in a week of storms has been fun.
Often when I’m out walking and looking for subjects abandoned objects catch my eye. A single glove, a shoe or in this case a frame for a pair of glasses. They leave me wondering what the story is behind their being discarded. On the one hand a haunting trace of someones life left on the pavement, on the other just so much rubbish.
February 15th.
Hellebores
The Hellebores are in full bloom in the garden about a month early. A sign of the effects of global warming as are the three storms that will hit the UK later in this week. I decided to have a bit of fun with some radical colour grading. A bit Andy Warhol although I’d probably have to do more repeats of the image.

Stack
The day before storm Dudley hit the decks but the weather was still pretty wild. A day for staying in and looking for subjects in the domestic world.
I was attracted to the way light was bouncing through this subject, I did some cross processing of the colour to give the image an added warmth.

Form
Out walking my sister’s dog in a lull in the weather I found this lying on the pavement. it looks like two tragedy masks joined together. Again a trace of human life.

Storm Lamp
Storm Dudley arrived and it was definitely a day to take shelter.
This shot I think has a feel of storm and darkness about it. Again an ordinary domestic object that I applied some creative colour grading to.
It strikes me as funny how photographers (myself included) attach so much to sharp images, tack sharp is the highest accolade that can be given to a lens. However out of focus shots can evoke a mood or atmosphere even more so than a sharp image.
As the great street photographer Henri-Cartier Bresson said ‘Sharpness is a bourgeois concept’. More can be found out in Eric Kim’s blog .

Dinah
Storm Eunice was raging around my sister’s house and no one wanted to go out especially Dinah my sister’s cat. She spent most of the day sitting on a pile of freshly laundered towels in between sniffing at her food and refusing to eat it.
I decided to get up close with my macro lens and see if she reacted. She remained as sphinx like despite the attentions of the lens.

Storm Sunrise
Finally storm Franklin blew into town so another day indoors as rain and wind battered the house.
I went for an ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) look. The result in camera didn’t look too promising but after some processing in lightroom this brooding image came about.
That’s the crop of images in the seventh week of this project. A bit later than normal and that will also be the case with week eight. Seems my life is getting busier at the moment. Anyways I hope you enjoy the photos.
Thanks for looking.
