Helebore Seed Head

Helebores have been flowering for a while now and seed is beginning to set. I decided to try and capture the shape of the seed pods before they ripen.

As there is not a lot of colour in the pods I decided to treat them in black and white. I think this gives a better sense of the shape and volume of the seed head

This image reminds me of Karl BLossfeldt’s macro photographs from the 1920’s. He made thousands of images from plant material and several books of his work have been printed and remain in print to this day.
