Welcome. Thank you for visiting my photography website.

For me photography is an adventure that constantly surprises and challenges me. Throughout the pandemic taking photographs has kept me grounded and continues to do so. Especially at the times when I could not leave the confines of my home and garden.

My main areas of activity are in macro photography especially using plant material such as leaves stems and flowers. The camera allows me to explore totally abstract subjects including road markings, textures, graffiti and other aspects of the built environment. I like to work either in the outdoors or on a table top. I often use the shadows cast by household objects to construct ambiguous compositions. These images are more than a nod towards the surrealists of the early 20th century.

A Bit About Me.

I studied fine art at Bristol Polytechnique graduating with a degree in fine art/sculpture.

After graduating I made a career shift into television and became an editor. Over the years of my career I’ve worked on factual entertainment shows, documentaries, feature films and other dramas.

Getting Back Into Photography/What’s In My Gear Bag.

With the coming of digital photography my interest in image making came back into play. In 2007 I purchased my first digital SLR a Pentax k10 which I still have today. The images on this site were all made with Pentax camera backs, the k10, my k5 and latterly K1 mkii. I also use a Pentax Q which is great to put in my pocket and capture street images.

Although Pentax is not so as popular as Nikon or Canon I find the rugged build, the wealth of features and the easy to understand camera interface suit me. I also appreciate that the Pentax K mount goes back to 1975. This means that vintage Pentax lenses are available and handled right produce really great results at a fraction of the cost of modern lenses.

Apart from photography I also write screenplays and poetry. Some of the poems have been published in literary journals. This has lead to collaborations with other poets on poetry films and a series of song settings of my own poems by the composer Simon Morecroft. More about this can be found on my videos page.

I hope you enjoy the photographs and videos as much as I enjoyed making them.
